Design Process

1 | Meet and Brief

Introductions and chit-chat. Meet the dog or the kids! Delve into your world and gather special information. Hear all things studio seventy four. Switch back to you. Listen and capture your needs and wants. The dream lists and the boring bits. Establish a style direction complimentary to you and the walls that encase your life. Can we be a team? Yes of course, you’re so impressed. We say goodbye but you will hear from me soon. You have taken the first step for something great to happen. Excitement!

2 | Scope of Work and Design Fee Estimate

What is that? Well I like to be sure we are on the same page. So it’s best to get it on paper. Then we all know what to expect. If it’s a small project, then ignore this step and go to #3. Otherwise if your project is large, then I need to be extra organised. So the scope outlines what you want me to do, the goals we want to kick and the outcomes we desire. If your project is a renovation, and there isn’t enough tradies in the family, then I suggest we bring in some of my trusted associates to help out.

With the scope comes my written estimate for my services. With your approval we launch into the next step #3

3 | Concept and Development

Back in the studio, now my creative work begins. Researching, gathering more information, ideas are evolving and concept sketches develop. Sometimes moodboards are created (project dependant) which help paint a picture of my style direction. We say hello again and you review my proposal and concepts. We talk it through, have a coffee, make a few tweaks here and there, explore some more and wrap up development phase ready for stage # 4.

4 | Design and Specification

We’re right in the middle of your project. The fun stuff begins. We explore colours, patterns, textures, products and materials. Overwhelming? Don’t worry, sit back and relax and I will present a colour and design solution that will woo you! Providing you with some options for your engagement and ownership to the project. Final decisions are made and final drawings and specification documents are prepared (project dependant).

5 | Create and Enjoy

Documents are sent out, orders are organised. Trades commence and installation happens. We are in the thick of it now. Exciting stuff! During the creation phase, I will check-in to ensure everything is going to plan. I’ll speak with the trades, answer their questions and clarify any details. Then it’s time to wrap it up. The joy of completion, my favourite stage is coming back to see the truly amazing results and smiles on my clients faces. Whether we started with a renovation rip out or a slab being poured, I am yet to see a result that was not worth the time and money invested. ENJOY!
